WE PROVIDE MOBILE TIRE SHREDDING
AND DISPOSAL SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY.

In the Spring of 2004, Dick Ayers of Wyoming Tire, Inc. and Brad Cundy of Cundy.biz, LLP combined their knowledge and skills to come up with a company that would be a benefit to the community and environment. This collaborative effort resulted in the founding of CASH TIRE, LLC in August of 2004, which provides tire shredding and disposal to businesses and landfills.

There are several reasons that this service is a necessity to our environment. Landfills all across the country are overflowing with tires. They take up to 80% more space when left whole, as compared to being shredded and buried. If you were to stack all of the tires that are taking up space in our landfills, it would stand about 142,000 miles high, that is, amazingly, half way to the moon.

In Wyoming, landfills are allowed to bury whole tires. Buried tires can capture methane gas and float towards the surface, which can explode upwards with extreme force. If left unburied, these tires can harbor stagnant water which can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes that can carry the deadly West Nile Virus.

Tires can provide a benefit to the environment when shredded and used as a light-weight embankment fill for road construction. Some applications of this include: reinforcing highway shoulders, protecting coastal roads from erosion, and enhancing the stability of steep slopes along highways.

WEST NILE & WYOMING

Scrap tires used to be considered more of an annoyance than an environmental issue. Until about 20 years ago, when the deadly West Nile Virus was discovered in the United States. Unfortunately, tires are the perfect place for mosquitoes to live and breed, since they easily collect rain and leaf litter which allows the larvae a perfect environment to be incubated. It has been said that 20% of tires are responsible for 80% of the problem.

According to the Wyoming Department of Health, across the state in 2003, there was an alarming 393 people who tested positive for the West Nile Virus. Nine of these individuals died from the disease. The WDOH study also showed a total of 230 horses and 182 birds that tested positive.

Living in Wyoming, most of us take advantage of the great outdoors. Whether camping,

fishing, hunting, playing sports, etc., which leave us vulnerable to mosquitoes. WDOH has mentioned a few ways to protect yourself when going outdoors. You can limit your time outside during dusk and dawn if possible, wear shoes, socks, long pants, and long sleeve shirts, and use insect repellent with DEET (according to the label).
